My Welsh Conservatives colleagues and I have long stated HS2 should have been regarded as an England-only project.
Welsh Conservatives do not believe the Welsh Government should receive the consequentials directly, instead the funding should go straight to Network Rail, ringfenced for use in Wales. It is questionable as to whether funding received from consequentials would go to public transport if given to the Welsh Government.
We welcome the announcement by the Prime Minister that the North Wales Main Line electrification will receive at least £1billion in funding from the UK Government. We are also pleased to hear that Wales is set to receive further consequentials from local rail projects in England.
