Thank you for writing to me concerning the compulsory microchipping of pet cats.
The Welsh Conservatives have been long-running supporters of the microchipping of pets. In 2009, we teamed up with Petlogto and the Kennel Club to urge all pet owners to have their animals microchipped as part of National Microchipping Month.
With microchipping being the safest and most reliable tool for the monitoring and identification of pet cats, my Welsh Conservative colleagues and I absolutely see the value in educating cat owners across Wales on the benefits of the approach.
The Conservative UK Government have also demonstrated their desire to pursue this, with legislation to make the microchipping of pet cats a legal requirement to soon be coming to the attention of Members of Parliament.
The Welsh Conservatives will be supporting all efforts to legislate the mandatory microchipping of cats here in Wales, as it will hopefully soon be in England.
